Carl Young has been a member of the board for 6 years. A former resident of Garrison ND, Carl and his bride Malette now call Bismarck home. Parents of 5 children and 1 grandchild, they are active in the special needs community. Carl and Malette are parents to 3 children with Autism, 1 with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
Carl, who is disabled himself, serves on numerous boards and committees. It is his way of giving back to the support community that has helped their family so much over the years. In addition to the board for Family Voices of North Dakota, he serves on the following boards, councils and committees:
- Consumer Advisory Council at ND Center for Persons with Disabilities.
Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness
Behavioral Health Planning Council
Mental Health Advocacy Network
ND Autism Connection
Attachment and Trauma Network (National)
Previously he has been on the following boards and task force groups: - Seclusion and Restraint Task Force
Committee on Protection and Advocacy
Carl and his bride recently formed their own non-profit organization dedicated to helping families of children that are born substance exposed or who have childhood trauma.
In addition to his work with non-profit organizations, task force groups and boards, Carl periodically speaks about transformational parenthood and the affect it has had on his family.
